ALERT – CalBRE Issues regarding Fraudulent Rentals

The California Bureau of Real Estate (“CalBRE”) recently issued an alert to agents and consumers warning against further fraud relating to rentals.

The CalBRE has issued an alert to agents and consumers relating to fraudulent rentals. Con artists are marketing properties, particularly vacant properties and properties that are listed for rentals as their own listings. They are then attempting to lease them and collect security deposits. Owners and agents are subsequently finding “new tenants” at the properties, who negotiated leases with these con artists. The owners, “new tenants,” and/or agents are having to address removing these tenants from the premises. Agents are cautioned to monitor their listings very carefully.
